Originally by: Ehranavaar one thing i find peculiar is that people keep saying that it's just a game etc. why would you get upset about losing an imaginary ship and so on.
it's like they are totally unaware that it's not just an imaginary ship it's the product of X hours of work to get the isk to buy the imaginary ship.
And if those hours weren't fun? And if you wouldn't be willing to do them all over again for said imaginary spaceship... WTF is the point of playing?

Originally by: Miss Rabblt you missed difference between result and work to get this result.
Simple example: do you enjoy time you spend at office to make salary? Or maybe you enjoy spending salary? Most people enjoy getting and using result of a work.
You realize you're comparing a game to actual employment right? If EVE feels like working a job you don't enjoy, you might want to take a little time out, a few deep breaths and seriously examine your priorities.
Originally by: Miss Rabbit Anyway. He spent hours to get ship and you spent minutes to make new stupid suicide char to gank him. Isn't it lame?
It was a bit lame. The flashy lights on the screen were slightly exciting but left me feeling rather emotionally unfulfilled. So I tried it a few more times and got the same results. I'll probably have to do it a number of more times just to be sure.

In monopoly it's expected and the only way to play the game. In this game you decide for yourself. The fact that you chose scamming other among all other possible things you could be doing simply tells that you would likely be a sociopathic freak IRL who steals from other people if you could. But you are too chicken of course so you realize your sick sociopathic fantasies in a game.
So we can assume, then, that you're an holier-than-thou judgmental prick IRL yeah?

Also, would you consider random scamming, random gatecamping, random ganking as cases of Us vs Them?
Actually you could, since sociopaths consider themselves at odds with everybody, even if they don't know them.
Hmmmm.... what about classic in-group/out-group behavior? Just maybe?
I really don't understand why you think there's a broad tacit agreement to "not be a jerk" in this game. The only tacit agreement in EVE that has ever been apparent to me is that (in most circumstances) you don't screw over your buddies and you don't screw over anyone you intend to have future honest dealings with... however in some crowds even that is not considered sacrosanct. It's really not that hard to figure out the score and identity those crowds either.

These threads are becoming about as productive as fapping with a cheese grater: slightly amusing, but mostly just painful.
